| It is believed that depression
causes most teenage
suicides,
but this creates a new question - what causes the depression?
A person just doesn't wake up one morning with depression.
Psychologists believe that some people have a genetic tendency towards
depression, some people develop depression
because of environmental triggers, and some people can have both genetic
and environmental triggers,
(See "Teen Depression and it's Causes"). Jared developed
depression from bullying
at school as well as an assault by a bully
in school. The new term being used to describe this type of teen
Suicide is, "bullycide,"
a suicide caused from the effects of bullying.
As
Jared's mom, I welcome you to my grief project, JaredStory.com.
You will find an abundance of stories about Jared, research
concerning bullying, depression, suicide prevention and suicide, as
well as some motherly advise to help those thinking about suicide or those
who have been through bullying, depression and/or a loss by suicide.
There are pages with serious subject matter, as well as pages filled with
laughter. |

If
you have had thoughts of suicide, be sure and read,
"Teenage
Suicide - Been There, Done That" and if you are
feeling down, be sure and read my favorite story about Jared, "The
Skittles War," and make, (and eat) Jared's favorite cake, "Dirt
Cake," which I call, "Worm Cake." It will take you back to the
happy moments in your own life and you will forget your troubles for a
time.
Jared's
loss filled our lives with grief,
but the healing has come. Our family has found hope in understanding
Jared's purpose in life and in The
Meaning of Life. (Be sure and read "Commit
Suicide, and go where?") We were
left behind with only memories of Jared, some good, some bad, but our healing
journey goes on and will for the rest of our lives.

HEAR JARED'S VOICE
- PLAY - From
an interview with Pasco School District investagators concerning the assault.
This is a recording of a recording and it isn't real clear, but worth the
download effort. Jared had a real mellow voice.
Note: If you have a slow load wav, wait for it to load entirely and then
play again from the start. - 5 minutes long
Jesse Sweet, a Producer for PBS/NOVA
is working on a six-hour PBS/NOVA series about “Human Nature.” He
is interested in talking to teenagers who have been bullied and are comfortable
talking about their experience. Jesse relates that, "It is very
important to hear the first-hand account of someone who can articulate
the reality of what it feels like to be bullied." Parent permission
for this documentary is required. If you are the parent of a
child who is being bullied and your child is interested in talking to Jesse,
email him at jesse

interview.

.HEROES
In The CROWD
~A
Book Project~
"Heroes
in the Crowd" is a new book that Brenda High, ("Bullycide
in America"), and Robin Todd, ("The
Proclamation"), is currently working on.
The "Bullycide
in America" book is a wake-up call
about the tragic effects of bullying and Heroes
in the Crowd is a Step-up-call to teach teens to
Step up, Stand Out and Take a Stand to stop bullying by being,
"Heroes in the Crowd".
We are looking for real stories
about kids who have stepped in to help their peers when they have faced
bullying problems, and real stories from victims of bullying who tell how
their peer-hero or peer-heroes saved them from being bullied or protected
them from bullies.
If you have a hero story to tell, (simple or unspectacular
is okay), or know of anyone that would like to share their hero story,
and would like to be considered for publication in our book, please send
your story to us. We will send you a release and a free gift, "dUntOthers"
bracelets, as well as a copy of the book when it's done. If
your story is not chosen for the book, we may still use it on the Heroes
in the Crowd website and you will still get the "dUntOthers"
bracelets. (dUntOthers bracelets are in limited quantities, so
when we are out, we are out... Then, we will think of something else to
give.)
Send your story to Robin, robinarizona430
(at) msn (dot) com if you and your friends started a "Stand Out" program
or took action that stopped or helped to stop bullying in your school.
Send your story to Brenda, brenda
(at) jaredstory (dot) com, if you were a victim and a hero, or heroes,
came to your aid and helped you survive the bullying.
